This Training in the Laboratory course allows participants to learn the critical skills required for training on test methods, quality system  and other laboratory trianing by combining both theory and practice of training methods.

An effective trainer must know the content well, be able to communicate well, know how learning works, have a high level of empathy to understand what the students are going through, be able to provide feedback, and be able to assess the success (or failure) of their students.

In a laboratory setting it is critical to ensure that employees who are trained by other employees are truly competent. This course will teach the skills necessary to determine training requirements, provide effective training and/or coaching and to assess the outcomes of training.

 

After completing this course participants will be able to:

  • Assess training requirements and determine what competencies, including skills and knowledge, are required by participants
  • Plan training sessions using existing test methods, reference documents, etc.
  • Determine the best method for teaching new skills and knowledge
  • Deliver training using existing laboratory procedures
  • Determine the minimum requirements for signing off on training records
  • Understand competencies
  • Assess the skills, knowledge, and competency of trainees

 

All laboratory staff with the responsibility of coaching or training other laboratory staff either in the laboratory, or in a classroom. 

This course is designed for both new and experienced laboratory trainers.

Cathy Wylie brings over 30 years of exceptional experience in instructional design and training delivery. As a seasoned expert, she is responsible for training CALA Assessors, equipping them with the essential skills and knowledge needed for effective laboratory accreditation.

Cathy has extensive experience in training trainers, ensuring that educational practices remain innovative and impactful. She manages the CALA Training Program. In addition, she serves as the Chair of the APAC Capacity Building and Evaluator Training Working Group, where she leads initiatives aimed at enhancing the capabilities of evaluators across the Asia Pacific region.

Her passion for education and commitment to quality assurance in laboratory practices make her an invaluable asset to the training community. Participants in her courses can expect to gain practical insights and expert guidance from her vast experience.
